Text: 1 Chronicles 29:1 -19
The giving that pleases God is the one that recognizes God as the owner and source of our lives and belongings. It is the giving borne out of upright hearts without any ulterior motives. David today goes further to show us a more acceptable way to approach giving. Not minding all he has done earlier towards the preparations for the temple building, he still offer almost all of his treasures. So, he gave a very large quantity of various metals: gold silver and precious stones. Having set the ball rolling he invites his fellow leaders to also give freely for the lord’s work.
Note verse 14 ‘who am i and who are my people that we should be able to give you so generously.. all things come from you and of your own do we give you.’ Let us always remember this. God loves us so much that he gave us of himself to create us. He created the world and everything in it to sustain life for mankind on earth. He further gives his only son to die for our redemption. What can we not give him to appreciate this wonderful love?
We should not feel that we have done so much whenever we give offering to God no matter how much we may have given. Instead we should pray that whatever we give will be acceptable to God. Note also the reverence David has for God. He first gives God himself by accepting him as the rock of his life. Likewise we must first give our lives to God by accepting Jesus the chosen one and his finished wok of redemption on the Cross. Then our Sacrifices and gifts to God will be meaningful, useful and acceptable to God.
