Text: 1 Chronicles 23: 1- 19
Preparing and praying For Your successor
Today’s devotional presents a very important lesson especially to parents. David took care to make adequate preparation and provision for the building of the temple. This is a project he conceived in his heart for God. When God stopped him from going further, he humbly accepts God’s decision. Nevertheless,he went on to prepare his son Solomon for the task ahead. He made it Clear to Solomon what he must do concerning the sanctuary. Then while still alive he began to amass a great quantity of various building materials.
Solomon could perceive from his father’s large preparation that the house of God is to be big, with the best materials available and majestic to the envy of all nations. God may not necessarily demand silver and gold from us but he expects to see our grateful hearts and appreciation for what he has done. Solomon entered office and continued from where his father stopped. The seed has been sown in him by his father to offer Worthy offering to God. Eventually, he will outdo David in giving.
So what? Life is a continuous cycle. God wants to see us maintaining that continuity by transferring legacies to our children. He is interested in our lineage to the third an fourth generations. Many parents do their best to leave properties and estates for their children but the best legacy anyone can give is showing his children the way of the lord. This is not something we do casually. It must be foundational and central to our children’s upbringing. When we train the children in the way they should go when they are old they will not depart from it.
