Text: Hebrews 11:20 – 30
All the heroes of faith mentioned in the bible passage above were looking ahead in faith. They have obviously received the special promise of God to their race from their progenitors. Instead of looking around and taking their destinies in their hands as many today will suggest, they choose to believe him who has promised.
Isaac was first in line after Abraham he passes the testimony onto his children. Jacob was the younger of the twin yet he is the one to catch the promise and continued this lineage of faith. Looking ahead he blesses each of his children in hope even in a foreign land. Joseph in turn did the same commanding that his bone be taken out of Egypt when the promise is fulfilled.
Finally Moses’ parents started him on the journey of faith by having the faith to raise him against all odds. Having planted the seed of faith in him as a child he couldn’t depart from it when he’s grown. So, He disdains the fleeting pleasures of sin for an invisible kingdom yet to come. He didn’t mind the difficulties it will bring but positions himself for the divine mandate.
Are you a person of faith? Then, this is a very important lesson for you. Faith is no faith which sees before it believes. A whole generation, to the fourth degree, believed what God promised to their fathers. They walked in view of this promise without wavering. They consciously looked ahead in hope trusting on the one who has promised. What a challenge to us! No wonder God confirmed that he knew Abraham would raise his children well.
The question for us is: can God trust me and you with such assignment today? He has called us to tell the world about the salvation and coming redemption in Christ Jesus. Thousands of years have passed already. Many are doubting if this messiah will still come. What is your answer? Will you be faithful to the end even if the promise tarries? Can you get your family to commit to this promise in their generations? Ponder on these things.
