Text: Hebrews 13:1-17.
THE LORD MY HELPER
The writer calls to mind the important issues that form the major thrust of his letter. The believer’s lifestyle should be that of holiness, love, hospitality and contentment, the example drawn from Jesus. We are called into the family of Christ where there is neither Jew or Greek, but we are one in Christ.
Hospitality is the practical demonstration of the love. Love for others especially believers has faced abuses and challenges in all generations, but we are admonished to continue to be kind to others as the Spirit leads us. If you have received help at your time of need, you should equally help others in need.
The life of the believer is set apart for purity and devoid of any evil that keep us out of communion with God. This holiness touches every area of his life, in word and in deed. To keep an open relationship and communication with man and God, we should strive to live a holy life. What is the difference between the holiness God desires of us and the one that comes from self righteousness ? Read Matthew 5:27-30.
Those who consistently conduct themselves unseemingly bear the fruit of the devi, for no one born of God continues in the enjoyment of evil (1 John 3:9). However quitting sin is a step towards salvation, for Christ must be invited in the heart to break the power of sin and give the power for righteous living that pleases God.
” You have a grand reserve, therefore. What you have in possession is only a little spending money to use on the road to heaven, but <<he hath said, I will never leave thee nor forsake thee.>> You may confidently fall back upon the providence of God in all times of straitness and need ” – (Surgeon Bible Commentary).
The life contentment though commanded has been difficult to the believer in his insatiable state. Our prayer is that God helps us to overcome greed.
Of a truth, God has been the Helper of His people. Our physical and spiritual existence is only by God’s help. The constant rise of the cost of living is an indicator that God has continued to help us, for without Him, adverse situation would have roasted His people. Give Him praise
The warning concerning false teachers and false doctrine is apt for our time, when men have made their belly their little gods. Read Philippians 3:19. Be sure that they do not swerve your faith. Keep off from them to avoid being carried away by heresy. Let your heart be established by grace and not by the dos and donts of religion.
Everything on earth is marked for destruction and it becomes folly and harmful to cling to them.
” But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a roar, and the heavenly bodies will be burned up and dissolved, and the earth and the works that are done on it will be exposed. Since all these things are thus to be dissolved, what sort of people ought you to be in lives of holiness and godliness (2 Peter 3:10-11).
It is only right to obey those placed over us as authorities. Why ? A rebel has no place in the kingdom of God and do not be one for any reason.
Please pray for me and other writers. Remember specially those brethren passing through hard times and oppositions.
