Text: 1 Chronicles 23 :1 – 3
FOR THE SERVICE OF THE LORD
For the service of the lord to be done rightly, David doesn’t want to leave any loopholes. He is making sure that everything is in it’s proper place and order. Having made mistake while transferring the ark of the covenant he insists on setting the right precedence for his son Solomon. Hence after Solomon is appointed king, David gets the Levites organized for the work of the temple. Now the Tabernacle is not going to move from place to place anymore since the Israelites are settled in the promised land. Therefore the work of the levites also needs an adjustment.
Since God has appointed the Levites to be in charge of the holy things it is only right that the foundational appointment is maintained with necessary adjustments. Now David organized them into singers gate keepers and those in charge of offerings. All these divisions aims at creating a beautiful harmony in the service of God.
So what? We must find the place where God wants us to be and be there. We must prayerfully consider what we are doing now and be sure that we are offering the right service to God. Leaders both secular and religious must learn to put their houses in order before passing on. Set the sight examples. Enshrine the right policies for your successor to follow. Pointing them to the principles and precepts of God all through. When this is done God is pleased and our service is made acceptable.
