Text: Hebrews 11:1 – 7
Theme: Faith of Our Fathers Lives On
All Christians have some measure of faith. It is part of our walk with Christ. If everything we believe is only because we have seen it, it is not faith. We have to choose to trust in God’s Word even when we have not seen earthly evidence.
Some people do have an extra measure of faith as a gift, but we all can increase our faith. However, the way faith is increased is usually through trials. Until we see that God will care for us, we may not fully trust in Him to do it. We keep trying to fix things in our human way or sometimes even with demonic spiritual assistance.
But true faith is a wonderful thing, as seen in the lives of the people mentioned in this chapter. People who act on what they believe, not what they have seen, are an inspiration to others. God is showing us here some of the past results of faith so that we can have more trust in Him to bring about good results in our lives as well.
There is more and more in life that is uncertain. This world is broken and getting very bad. But as God’s people continue to seek His face and live as Christ guides us, we can increase our faith. And as we give testimony to what we know Christ did for us by shedding His blood for our sins, we can overcome satan and help others to do so as well.
When our lives are based on our feelings or the thoughts and ideas of the world, our own hearts or doctrines of the devil, we will not build faith. When we choose to seek Christ and wait on the Lord, we may appear to have more trials but as we endure them and persevere, we will be more and more in a position to be able to proclaim “God is faithful”.
Have you seen God’s faithfulness in your life? Have there been times when you couldn’t see a way out but God helped you? Be sure to give testimony to those as God leads and never forget that He IS faithful. He is working all things for our good and for His glory even if we cannot see it with our scaled human eyes.
