Text: Hebrews 10:1-18
Theme: The Effective Sacrifice
Jesus’ sinless sacrifice is undoubtedly the most effective sacrifice of all ages. This week series of studies shows Jesus’ sacrifice as the
- last sacrifice
- the superior sacrifice and
- the perfect sacrifice.
Today we are looking at it as the effective sacrifice. A thing is said to be effective if it performs accurately the function is meant to. The law was given to make people know what sin and sinfulness is. The Tabernacle is established as a place of meeting for God and man. The priests were appointed to serve as go between for God and his people. More so the sacrifices aim to cleanse sins and bring forgiveness. Unfortunately each of these systems could not perform the intended functions effectively. Why? Because according to verse 1
they are all shadows; a blurred or dimmed preview of the absolute realities of their heavenly counterparts.
In place of the law Jesus brought mercy and Grace. He further enshrines the law of love in the hearts of those he sets free. He replaced the earthly tabernacle with the heavenly one. Heaven and earth meets as he removes the barrier and gives free access to the father. He is the true high priest and the heavenly mediator between God and man. For daily and annual sacrifices he gave himself as ransom for sin once and for all time.

So what? Jesus’ sacrifice is total, perfect, excellent, complete, affective and final. It wants nothing. Since the main issue of sin is completely taken away by his one time efficacious enough sacrifice man is reconciled back to God. What then is the need for any other sacrifice?
Therefore beloved embrace Jesus’ complete and effective sacrifice today. Simply cling to his cross. For nothing in your hand you may bring can fulfil the laws’ righteous demands. They cannot add or remove from what he’s done. He did all that is required. All you need now is to accept what he has done in faith and live in it’s consciousness for the rest of your life.
