Text: 1 Chronicles 15:16-29
Theme: Rejoicing in God’s House
Rejoicing in God’s house is such a good thing. Making merry in God’s house is a privilege. David and his fellow worshippers; the children of Israel did justice to today’s worship. Everything was in order. The Levites had confessed their sins and sanctified themselves in verse 14. So now, they are fit to handle the holy things. From verse 16-24 they took time to divide themselves into various groups. There were the the singers, the gate keepers, the trumpeters etc. These groups were then followed by the congregation made up of the king the army commanders and the entire Israel. This is the order God wants to see each time the ark was to be moved.
In addition it is important to note how David stepped aside for the Levites to officiate in this procession. He knows where his own rights and responsibilities as a king end. Having realized his previous mistake he took the initiative to set things right. He recognized that this job is precisely for the Levite. Hence he gave them all his support by providing all that was needed. Then, he fell behind as part of the worship procession.
This order must be maintained in our worship services. Every gift must be recognized and put into proper use. Let no man be a jack of all trades. Many people like to belong to every department of the church just to get attention or be assured that they are serving God with all their might. This is wrong. God knows your capabilities. It is always better and more productive to serve within the confines of your gift.”
Finally while worship was going on Mrs. Michal David was busy despising her husband. What a shame! All that Matters to Michal was the dignity of her husband. To her, prestige is everything so why must David belittle himself to dance like a common man. Michal cannot worship God freely because she is indifferent to godly discipline neither does she hold God in high esteem. Her personality and what people will say is more important to her. In the end she reaped the fruit of her actions.
Beloved, check your self. Many people in our churches are like this. The way we carry ourselves even right inside the church is so discouraging. So many people still walk with their noses in the air. They despise those who dance joyfully in the presence of God. As if dancing with such abandon is so unbecoming of their class.
Moreover, some still behave as if gentility is equal to holiness, so they act very gently and expect everyone else to so same.. There is still the error of segregation and class stratification in the church…the haves, the have nots..its so nauseating. Let this worship of self stop! God hates it. God’s house is a place of worship and sacrifice (prayer). So what? We must first bring the sacrifice of joyful, soulful praise into his house before any other thing will follow.
