Text: Hebrews 10: 32-39
Theme: Admonition to Persevere
This admonition to persevere is very timely for all believers today. Christianity is under attack and Christians all over the world are experiencing different kinds of persecution. Although the present afflictions does not compare with that of the early elders of faith, we still need to heed this admonition to persevere and hold firmly to our faith.
Hence, verse 2 calls us to REMEMBER. We are to: remember those early days after you had received the light, when you stood your ground in a great contest in the face of suffering… Yes!! Remember those days beloved.
Those days when parents rejected you for becoming born again. Do not forget those days when fellow students made jest of you because you refuse to conform. Were you ever denied school fees and other necessities because you are in this way? At your place of work they sat on your promotion because you will not dance to their tune. Were you ever destitute, hungry, disillusioned, abandoned, denied of your right at a time because you chose to serve Jesus? Always remember it. O do not forget.
Those days were the more glorious days of your calling if you persevered through it. It is to such people that this admonition is coming to. When you remember where you are coming from you will be able to know how close to your destination you are. Nothing in this world is worth Denouncing Jesus for. Not even your own life.
What is your present situation now? What is your present persecutor tight now? Lack? Difficult marriage? Delayed marriage? Delay in child bearing? Sickness? Calamities? Death? Yeah! But in all these things we are More than conquerors… For nothing shall separate us from the love of Christ.
Hold on beloved! Hold firm. He who promised is faithful. He never fails. Remember he will repay but only those who hold on till the end. He held on until death on the cross. He didn’t throw in the trowel, today he bears the name above every other name. This is the same calling we have received. You too must hold on till the end no matter what. Remain faithful and blessed till the end in Jesus name Amen.
