text Matthew 13: 53-58
Theme: the peril of unbelief
The people of Jesus household feel unto the peril of unbelief. They couldn’t see anything wonderful in what Jesus is doing instead they scoffed at him.
Verse 54 says:
When He had come to his own country, He taught them in their synagogues so that they were astonished and said, where did this man get this wisdom n these mighty works? Is this not the carpenter’s son…?
An by this saying they despise Jesus. Sadly, they voul get nothing from him. He has been helping others, healing and teaching about the kingdom of God but the people of his own hometown despise him. What a shame!
Consequently, Jesus told them a prophet isn’t without honour except in his own country and his own6j hi house.
The lesson here is that if Jesus was without honour in his own home, as a believer, you should except much from your house and family. In fact, they might even be your worst detractors. This is because you make their wrongs known to them and also refuse to partake in the evil they do.
Jesus could not do much because of their unbelief. A man can hardly receive any thing from a Go he scarcely believes in. Jesus left and went somewhere else to continue the kingdom work.
This is one reason many preachers are posted out of their towns. It is also the reason church workers ate periodically transferred.
So what? Take heart when you are disdained in your home as a believer. It happened to Jesus. Do your bit to preach to them. Pray more for their repentance and conversion. God knows how best to send his disciples to your family members as you continue praying for them.
Likewise, we must also shun the disdainful spirit in out own lives. We must avoid trivializing God word or his ministers because we have become too conversant with them. Rather in humility we must keep learning and depending on the holy to teach us new things from God word daily.
