Text: Matthew 15 vs 1-20
Theme: Man’s Tradition or God’s law?
The question asked by the theme: ‘man’s Tradition or God’s law?’ is a very crucial one. Every believer especially need to answer this question truthfully. We need to carefully consider what we believe and practice in the light of God’s laid down principles in his word. Many churches have added traditions in the name of doctrines. People are more attached to these doctrines and dogmas than the word of God.
Jesus quoting from Isaiah 29: 13 says
These people honour me with their lips but their hearts are fat from me. They worship me in vain, their rules are but rules taught by men
It is such a pity to be in the church and yet know nothing about God except what my church is doing this or what my papa said’. Ask them what does the bible say about such they can’t answer. Sadly a greater percentage of the christian population belong here. They are ignorant of the scriptures and kingdom truth.
The pharisees accuses Jesus of allowing his disciples eat with unwashed hands. For them this is what makes man unclean. But Jesus shows them their error. Uncleanliness comes from within. It is the depravity of the heart that constitutes uncleanliness. Jesus emphasized ‘It is not what goes in that defiles but what comes out’. Murders, adulteries, slander etc all emanate from a depraved heart.
This lesson is so clear. It’s not church that matters it’s your relationship with God. How much do you know God and Jesus Christ whom he has sent. Or are you simply going through the motions of rituals kept by your church founding fathers without seeking to ensure you’re operating by God’s own standard.
Many will be so surprised on the last day for all their wasted efforts They will realize how useless, shallow and empty their belief has been. Time to get things right is now. Seek Jesus and get a personal encounter with him!
