text Proverbs 22 verses 17 to 29
Theme: live wisely with others
To live wisely with others requires being conversant with the right and responsibilities available and seeking to ensure they are not trampled upon. Today, therefore, God is instructing us in his word to live wisely with people around us. This wise living entails knowing God, knowing his word and living according to His will. In verses 20 to 21 he says:
have I not written to you excellent things of counsels and knowledge that I may make you know the certainty of the words of Truth that you may answer words of truth to those who send to you.
God has taken time to instruct us in his word. What he’s Written to us are excellent counsels of wisdom and knowledge. Seeking to know and unravel these excellent things is wisdom. Moreover, applying them in our daily lives is life and peace. Hence, we can actually live comfortably, conveniently and wisely with people around us in a changing environment and economy. However, this is only possible if we make biblical instructions our guiding principles. The world and it’s systems may keep changing but God’s word is constantly relevant to meet all the challenges of the changing world
The rest of the passage gives us practical wisdom for daily living and peaceful coexistence. This in Verse 25 we should not be friends with angry people. We must avoid foolishness in issues of money and debt (vs26) Do not owe debts and be careful when standing as surety for a debtor. In addition, Verse 28 shows it is foolishness to trivialize your family belongings, birthrights or inheritance. Ancient Land marks, land boundaries, genealogies etc are very important issues in the bible. Don’t joke with them like Esau. Always remember what God did to Ahab for taking Naboth’s vineyard. Finally, vs 29 says: hard work, determination, focus and resilience gets everyone a spot. Whatever good work your hand finds to do, do it with all you might.
