Text: Matthew 15: 22-28
Theme: Be Persistent!
Be persistent! Don’t give up and do not loose focus in your prayers is the instruction we are receiving today. PRAYER- the act of communicating with God is the only way to get our problems solved as believers. Being Prayer less is the major hindrance to prayer.
Take note of this woman’s origin. She is a Canaanite. Remember them? The idolaters God drove away from the land of promise. She recognizes who Jesus yet she comes without shame. Even though she was ignored and reproached, she didn’t stop. What a faith!.
First, she is well aware that Jesus is the messiah of the Jews ( although eventually that of the whole world). Therefore, she didn’t argue when Jesus called her an outsider. In fact she was literally referred to as a dog. Yet, she accepted the degrading name. She is only focused on her need; her daughter’s deliverance. Jesus alone can do it. So she kept faith, passionately pressing on and refuses to be deterred. At last Jesus took cognisance of he unwavering faith and granted he request.
What challenges me in this reading today is what Jesus said in verse 26 ‘
it is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to the dogs’.
Believers are kingdom children. The inheritance of the kingdom belongs to us. Why then do we faint. Why are we famished and disillusioned? Unbelievers attend church programs just once and receive breakthroughs while our problems remain with us. Everything that pertains to life and godliness have been given to us. We have unfettered right and access to it. Sadly, ignorance keeps us away from getting it.
Hear this; Today is the day your reproach is rolled away. Step away from Gilgal and enter the land of promise. Everything is prepared for you. Just be persistent in prayers and see all doors of breakthroughs, healing wealth and deliverance opened to you. The key is PRAYER. Ask, Seek and knock. Jesus is ever ready to answer.
