Text: Proverbs 19:1-14
WISDOM FOR DAILY LIVING
Wisdom for daily living from God’s point of view starts with integrity. Integrity is worth more than all the riches on earth that move men to behave like fools. The world has thrown integrity to the mud, to get whatever they want by any means. “The end justifies the means”, they say. It is to God, the righteous Judge that all men will return to give the final account of their lives (2 Corinthians 5:10). This fact should moderate how we live our lives here on earth.
Hence, We are enjoined in Proverbs 19:1
Better is the poor that walks in his integrity than he that is perverse in his lips
It is better that we are delayed in our actions than make some terrible mistakes. When the Holy Spirit is allowed to direct us, we become wise in our conduct without regrets. God is interested in our success in the things we do and He takes to directing us when we are willing to receive His counsel, (see also James 1:19)To plan what we want to do and getting on to do it is like the throw of a dice. If we miss our way, we have ourselves to blame.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding;
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall direct your paths (Proverbs 3:5-6)
The foolish man walks on the crooked path which is altogether slippery. A fall is what is before him. His trouble is that he has missed the WAY. (Read John 14:6)
Why do people often cluster around you? Is it to eat and drink or to gossip ? What happens when you tell the gospel of Jesus Christ to them? Of course many disappear.
Everyone who loves wisdom will have a godly life, therefore we must get Christ Jesus who is the wisdom of God. He is salvation to your soul and charts a righteous path for you. But when man fails to heed wise counsel, he becomes a prey to the devil and an instrument for every evil work.
See verse 8
He that gets wisdom loves his own soul: he that keeps understanding shall find good
Therefore, when people choose to be bad, they are injurious first to themselves and to the people inside and outside of them. A righteous living is the choice of peace and to reverence God is wisdom and to turn from evil is understanding (Job 28:28). The decaying world is as a result of less care over child upbringing for a long period of time and parents losing grips on their children. The state which has taken over the training of children is nobody in particular. God has proved Himself wiser by His instruction to parents to train up their children in the desired direction that they do not turn to be an embarrassment (Proverbs 22:6).
By allowing God’s counsel to prevail in our lives at all times, we demonstrate our love and submission to him. More so, we must do this because, He is our Maker who loves us and who knows the beginning to the end of all things. He has our interest at heart. Above all, “houses and riches are an inheritance from fathers . . . (vs 14).
Our expectation of a greater inheritance in Christ will be the kingdom of God. Everyone who aspires to be in the kingdom should begin on earth to live righteously though Christ.
