Text: Deuteronomy 31:1-13
Theme: The Lord will Go Ahead of You

The lord will go ahead of you is the word of assurance from Moses to the children of Israel as he nears the end of his ministry. Their wilderness journey takes a total of 40 years and now, Moses is to go and be with the lord. At this point what is the way forward? What will Moses do? Moses looked up to where his help has always come from and like a good father, he points his children upwards too. He knows that they may panic at his impending departure therefore, he assures them that the eternal God will go ahead of them. Hence, no need to fear.

The lord will go ahead of you

This is exactly what God expects from his children. He doesn’t want us to put our trust in physical things or on mere men. We must acknowledge God as the source of strength , protection and deliverance and also teach our children so. For he who trust in man will be like a wasteland (see Jeremiah 17:5-8).Our relationship with God as adults or as parents must be so glaring that our descendants can easily trust and have confidence in our God. Children learn more by observation than mere talk. If we live our lives in practical obedience to God and always recourse to him in times of distress then, our testimonies becomes stepping stones to great faith in our children.

Verse 8

and the lord, He is the one who goes before you. He will be with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you; do not fear nor be dismayed”

This is the word of assurance coming to us all today from the lord. We are to hold unto it tenaciously. We must not fear. Our God will always go ahead of us to prepare the way. Though there may be giants on the way to hinder us, if we do not faint, he will surely give us victory. Do not despise or trivialise his word. Whatever he promises, he will surely perform it. Rest in his word.
