Jesus Assures of Rest

Jesus Assures of Rest

Theme: Jesus Assures of Rest

Scripture Text: Mathew 11: 25-30

Jesus  assures of rest to all his followers. This is the perfect peace found in following him here on earth and the eternal life he gives to all who believe in him. Before making this promise in verse 28-31, he first announces in verse 27

the father has entrusted all things into my hands.

This means, He has authority to execute every policy and of God. Jesus assures of rest to all who labour and are weary. A man’s life is full of uncertainties, wants and diverse aspiration but Jesus says in verse 28-29

Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

Generally, Jesus, gives rest from labour and weights to all who come to him, but rest for the soul is exclusively reserved for those who take up his yoke.

A yoke is a commitment to servitude. In other words, it is not enough to have a Saviour we cannot submit to as Lord. When a believer refuses the yoke of Christ, his soul remains restless.. This is the sad state of many in the church today. By avoiding Christ’s yoke, the yoke of Satan still rests on such shoulders because there can be no yokeless neck!

Jesus Assures of Rest

Christ assures us of his rest when we trust him with our labours. He gives us a balance. He makes us content with whatever we have. We labour but not  in the ways of the world for earthly joys have faded away. Instead, our labour is for the glory of His kingdom

More so, Christ assures of rest to all who are heavily burdened. The load of sin is a heavyweight. Drug Addiction, for instance, kills so many every year,  who, earnestly, desire to stop. They couldn’t stop because the burden is heavier than what they could bear. Only one man has broken the chains and shackles. His name is Jesus. He takes the oppressive power of sin and makes a public show of it.

In conclusion, there is no burden of sin he cannot overcome. To those who come to him, he gives the same power. When they enter into a covenant relationship with him by taking his yoke upon themselves, they remain victorious over sin and Satan forever. Come to him today, you that still labour around with heavy burdens and he will give you rest.

PRAYER: Father, deliver us from the deception of cunningly avoiding the yoke of Christ in Jesus name
