Text: Deuteronomy 20:1- 20
Theme: The Rules of War
This bible passage outlines various rules of war to be observed by the Israelites. The bible variously describes God as a God of war. In the Psalms we see him as the one who “teaches our hands to do battle”. What does this mean? Does God love fighting? No! However, there are two kingdoms at loggerheads in the universe, crisis are, therefore, unavoidable. As God’s children we live in constant warfare against the enemy of our souls.
The implication of this lesson s that we must live in the consciousness of our unending war with the powers of darkness. Satan is the enemy of our soul and he keeps fighting our decision to join forces with the kingdom of light against him. Once we declare for Jesus and His spirit of holiness, we have depopulated the kingdom of darkness and this is no joke for Satan. His fight is not physical but spiritual.
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood but against principalities, against powers against the rulers of the darkness of this world against spiritual wickedness in high places (Ephesians 6:12).
Therefore we must put on the whole armour of God as outlined in Ephesians 6: 13-18, so that we can fight and stand victoriously against the wiles of Satan. Always remember that his wiles are subtle but more deadly than bullets. When Satan for instance gets you to fall into the sin of fornication and adultery or become an addict to one sin or the other, in a way your own is finished. It takes only the grace of God to save you.
Therefore vv16-18 warns clearly that we must not spare anyone who will drag us into worshiping any strange God. As instructed in Mathew
We must cut off every limb, eye, nose, relative or friendship that might make us to miss the kingdom of Heaven.
Beloved, this fight is real. It is not for the fearful nor the faint hearted and foolish. Revelations says that all fearful will have their place in the lake of fire. So are you fearful? Are you unwise? ask God who gives liberally without upbraiding and he will give you the wisdom you need to run this race. Remain blessed.
