Text: Deuteronomy 14:1-21
Theme: Clean and Unclean Meat
Clean and unclean meat differentiations was and still remains a major preoccupation of the Jews and all others who still observe the laws of Moses. God gave all these laws to the Israelites, basically, to show that they must live a wholly dedicated life unto Him in separateness from the world around them.
Many believers can easily say they do not abide by these laws today because it does not behove us to do so according to Mark 7:15. But, the decision not to abide by these dietary regulations today as Christians shows our ignorance in clinging to some other parts of the law, probably due to traditions or wrong teachings.
All the law is fulfilled in Jesus. We do not need them to be accepted by God. The bible remains our standard. May God help us to seek daily to understand the whole package of the gospel of grace and truth as the lord Jesus brought it.
The dietary laws, as with all other laws, are pointers. They are symbolic of what God has in mind for us through Jesus. We are not to live just anyhow we please. In everything we do we must be separate from the world. No contamination; No defilement.
This is because
you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation. His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of him who called you out of the darkness into his marvelous light, (1Peter 2:9)
Our lives must be completely yielded to God in holy lifestyle because of the call on us to be separate. Now, what marks us out is the law of love.
Christians must bring love to the world around them by the way they live. They must live in continuous pursuit of doing good through a holy spirit inspired lifestyle, forgiving wrongs and seeking to do the will of the master even towards all that may have offended them.
