Hindrances to prayer can be likened to road blocks. They prevent an easy access to God. Sin is the chief among all of these hindrances. It makes our prayer to land on deaf ears. When we come to God in prayer therefore, the first thing we must do is to address the issue of sin for David said in Psalms 66, if I regard iniquity in my heart, the lord will not hear me.
Joshua 7 tells the story of Achan and the accursed thing. Though there was a covenant relationship between Israel and God, sin caused a breach. They could neither stand before God nor their enemies until they got rid of the accursed thing. Sadly, Achan refused to own up to his sin. He waited until God fished him out. Surprisingly, one man’s sin affected the whole congregation. What does this tell us about the effects of our individual sins on the body of Christ? Sin is what makes the church today weak in the eyes of the world.
Numbers 23:21 & 23
He hath not beheld iniquity in Jacob, neither hath he seen perverseness in Israel..so, surely, there is no enchantment against Jacob neither is there any divination against Isreal.
Habakuk 1:13,_thou art of purer eyes than to behold iniquity.
God’s hands are not shortened neither his ears deaf but our sin has separated us from him. A sinner man’s prayer is an abomination before God but the prayer of a righteous man is his delight.
What is the sin you are hiding in the tent of your heart? Do not allow God to unravel it himself for it will be disastrous. Own up to your shortcomings. Confess and repent of them. Jesus has already paid for your sin. All you need do is repent of it, confess it and denounce it.
Father for grace to always come to you in humility and repentance we pray in Jesus name. Amen!
