…”Do you believe God or yourself?
This is an important question. Often, we tend to rely on ourselves more than we rely on God. We try to figure out everything by ourselves and make provisions in our minds about all the possible outcomes.
When we rely on our abilities for success or focus on our unpleasant circumstances, instead of trusting in God we deceive ourselves. God has made so many provisions in his word concerning us. He wants us to look away from ourselves and look at his word for a definition of who we are.
Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things yet unseen. It is a supernatural gift of God. No one can have faith if it is not given to him by God. This is why we must pray for it.
There are a lot of best sellers which advocate “believe in yourself”; but the bible warns in proverbs 28:26,
whoever trusts in his own mind is a fool but he who walks in wisdom will be delivered.
Jesus is our wisdom. If we trust in him completely, then we have arrived. If we don’t, then we are just like ordinary men trying to fix everything by ourselves. “By the arm of flesh shall no man prevail”. Our identity is in Jesus. Without him we can do nothing; our innate abilities, opportunities, pedigree and all, not withstanding. The basic reality about you is God’s testimony concerning you.
PRAYER: father, thank you for your love upon us. You don’t want us to go about figuring things out by ourselves. Help us to understand what faith means so we can learn to trust you always through Christ Jesus. Amen.
