Text: Psalm 125: 1-5
The lord God is our strong refuge and protector from every sort of danger. The one we trust. Man tends to rely on visible structures for protection but those who know their God will trust him for their protection.
Those who trust or rely on the lord completely are in verses 1-2 likened to mount Zion, the holy hill, which cannot be moved. The lord has got us covered in every area of life:
as the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the lord surrounds his people from this time forth and forever
What a glorious promise! It is a pity that most times we fail to trust God’s word as we should. Therefore, we become discouraged and run helter skelter. Right here, God promises that he will never depart; he will abide with us forever.
For the sceptre of wickedness shall not rest on the land allotted to the righteous
This verse has been a sure anchor to my soul. Whenever the evil ones rise up and display their wickedness, I quickly remind myself this promise of God. The lord is not asleep. The enemies might triumph for a while because God gives them time to repent. This does not mean they have an upper hand or that God forgets his children; No! He is watching, waiting and working.
Therefore, be reminded again, servant of God, whatever the enemies are doing around you, be sure that the sceptre of wickedness shall never rest on the land allotted to the righteous. Weeping may, indeed, endure for the night but joy comes in the morning. Take God at his word. Stand firm on his promises for they never disappoint. In Jesus, they are all YES and AMEN!
