God’s holiness is his most unique attribute. It sets him completely apart from all his creation. In many portions of the scriptures we are commanded to be holy just as the lord is. To be pure and separate from unclean things so that he will accept us.
Isaiah 6:3 shows the prophet Isaiah a glimpse into God’s holiness. In the year king Uzziah died he saw the lord. And the cherubic angels were calling to one another “holy, holy, holy is the lord almighty, the whole earth is full of his glory’.
I love to put God’s holiness before my eyes everyday, not to remind God about his holiness, but to remind myself. God does not forget that he is holy, but I sometimes forget. 1 Peter 1:15-16 reminds us of everything said in Leviticus; ” just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do. For it is written, be holy, because I am holy”.
Dearly beloved, I also which to encourage you to be holy and blameless. In view of God’s mercies to offer your body as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God for this is your due and proper worship. (Romans 12:1). “For you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation , God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light” (1Peter 2:9).
As Hillsong United leads us in this ancient hymn “holy, holy, holy, lord God Almighty”, may we meditate on the lyrics as we receive grace to walk holily and righteously today and for the rest of our days, through Christ who makes us holy. Amen!
